Coldplay Chris quits Primrose Hill set – and makes £7m profit in the process

COLDPLAY singer Chris Martin has sold the mansion he once shared with Gwyneth Paltrow for a staggering £7million profit, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

The vast 33-room home in the Primrose Hill area of North London is made up of two properties knocked into one.

The couple bought the first for £2.5 million from Kate Winslet and her then husband Sam Mendes in May 2004. They then snapped up the neighbouring home for £3million in 2009, before doing extensive building works.

Now the combined home, boasting eight bathrooms and a gym, has been sold to an Asian businessman for £12.5million.

The property was Martin and Paltrow’s marital home until they announced their ‘consciously uncoupling’ split in 2014. Despite moving to California, where he now lives with Fifty Shades Of Grey actress Dakota Johnson, Martin held on to the property.

A source said: ‘Chris got the house in the divorce but kept hold of it even though he lives in Malibu now. It may have been a connection to the UK for him, as his life is very American, but he certainly managed to make a decent profit on it.’

The couple built eight rooms on the lower ground floor, six on the next level and five on the first floor. Planning documents also showed eight rooms on the second floor.

They added a pair of two-storey extensions, which provided extra space for a gym, changing room, three further bedrooms, an extra bathroom and space for a garden and play area for their daughter Apple, who was born soon after they bought the first property, and her younger brother Moses, now 16.

The house is next door but one to James Corden’s former home, which he sold last year.

Martin and Paltrow relocated to Los Angeles in 2013, shortly before they announced they had split. A year later they filed for divorce at Los Angeles County Superior Court.

The Coldplay star bought a threebedroom ranch in Malibu in May 2019 for £4.25million but sold it in January 2021 when he purchased another home in the area for £11.1 million.

Paltrow, 49, now lives in Montecito, California, with her second husband Brad Falchuk.

The couple also own a house in the Los Angeles suburb of Brentwood and a holiday home in the Hamptons, the trendy summer resort for wealthy New Yorkers where they married in 2018.

Martin and Paltrow remain close and last week attended the high school graduation of 18-year-old Apple in Santa Monica.

Writing on Instagram, Paltrow said: ‘Proud doesn’t cover it, my heart swells with feeling I can’t put into words.’
