ENGLAND v SWEDEN KEY BATTLES

-

LUCY BRONZE v FRIDOLINA ROLFO

Bronze and Rolfo will be Barcelona team-mates next season after the England right-back signed for them last month. But on Tuesday they will be going up against each other. Rolfo has been playing on the left of a front three but she can also play as a leftwing back, where she usually operates for Barca. She is one of Sweden’s most dangerous attacking threats but was the picture of frustration against Belgium, who kept her quiet in the quarter-final. Bronze has the ability to do the same but she will have to be wary of leaving too much space behind her if she ventures forward to join England’s attack.

ALESSIA RUSSO v MAGDALENA ERIKSSON

While Ellen White could start up front again for England, there is no doubt Russo will be introduced in the second half as her substitute performances have been crucial in previous matches. Russo has scored three times after coming off the bench and she assisted the equaliser against Spain. The forward’s energy could cause a lots of problems if the Swedes start to tire and it will be up to Chelsea captain Eriksson to ensure the striker is not allowed space and time on the ball. Eriksson is the leader and organiser of the Sweden defence and will be key if they are to nullify England’s attack.

KEIRA WALSH v FILIPPA ANGELDAHL

Manchester City team-mates Walsh and Angeldahl know all about each other and their midfield battle will be central to the outcome of Tuesday’s game. Both Walsh and Angeldahl like to get on the ball but with England likely to have more possession, the Swedish midfielder may have to sit a little deeper and try to stop Walsh from dictating play.

But Angeldahl can also cause problems going forward if England are careless in possession, so Walsh must use the ball wisely — as she has already shown she can do during the tournament.
