BORIS and Carrie Johnson celebrated their marriage last night – with the bride wearing a borrowed gown that cost her just £25.

Despite it being the most special of evenings for the couple, Mrs Johnson opted to stick to her sustainable fashion principles with the dress by designer Savannah Miller, the older sister of actress Sienna.

The floor-length, halter-neck gown named Ruby has an original price tag of £3,500 but is available for a day rate of £25 on Londonbased website Wardrobe HQ, which Mrs Johnson, 34, has been using for more than three years.

For their wedding ceremony last year, she also rented a dress, a bell-sleeved, embellished tulle number by Greek designer Christos Costarellos, which bought new would cost £2,830 but was loaned for £45 from the site.

Mr Johnson’s father Stanley, 81, and sister Rachel were among the first guests to arrive last night.

Actress and singer Holly Valance, wife of Tory donor

Nick Candy, added some glamour as she arrived at the Cotswold venue yesterday afternoon in a Rolls-Royce.

From the world of politics, the Prime Minister’s former chief of staff Dan Rosenfeld was in attendance, as were his staunch Tory allies Jacob Rees-Mogg and Nadine Dorries.

Around 200 guests gathered for the party, which was planned after their nuptials at Westminster Cathedral in May last year were restricted to just 30 people due to Covid restrictions.

Yesterday, the couple finally had something to look forward to, with friends saying their priority was for their friends and family to enjoy themselves.

The Johnsons’ children Wilfred, two, and seven-monthold Romy were expected to make an appearance but the party was due to go on way past their bedtime.

The sprawling event was held at Daylesford House, the Cotswolds retreat owned by Lord and Lady Bamford. The Johnsons decided not to hold it at Chequers after Boris stood down as Prime Minister.

The Bamfords are understood to be taking their hosting of the event ‘very seriously.’ The festivities started with Boris joining Carrie on the dancefloor for their first dance to Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline – chosen because Carrie’s full first name is Caroline.

In keeping with Mrs Johnson’s eco-friendly values, guests were treated to a feast of South African barbeque food from a local food truck, Smoke & Braai – a small family-run business that provides a ‘low and slowsmoked BBQ’ and handmade tortilla tacos.

They also provide firecooked grass-fed British beef, boerewors (South African sausage), tortilla tacos, smoked ‘barbacoa’ lamb and ancient grain salad.

Smoke & Braai was set up three years ago by Zimbabwe-born Simon Chiremba, who studied culinary arts at University College Birmingham.
