Oscar winner? My kids use me as a taxi service and my dog wees in the kitchen, laughs Olivia

- By James Desborough

WITH an Oscar, Bafta and three Golden Globes, it is fair to say that Olivia Colman is not the average mum at the school gates.

But the star has credited her family, especially the canine members, with keeping her grounded while her Hollywood career took off.

The 48-year-old said: ‘My dog still wees in the kitchen. Normal stuff still happens – you still have to clean it up and you remember, this is normal life. Kids want you to drive them around the place like a taxi.’

Colman married university sweetheart Ed Sinclair in

2001 and they have two teenage boys, Finn and Hall, and a daughter born in 2015 whose name has never been made public.

The Favourite star once revealed that her children were uninterested in her career, saying: ‘They’re not that bothered. It’s not the important part of our day. Mummy has a job and she loves it and she’s very happy.’

The actress revealed last year that their dog,

Alfred Lord Waggyson – named after the poet Lord Tennyson – was suffering from diabetes and needed insulin injections twice a day. She added: ‘He’s being very brave and now he’s all bright and sparky again.’

Colman teamed up with her scriptwriter husband for the first time last year on the drama Landscapers, based on the true story of double murderers Susan and Christopher Edwards.

She said she could not have watched the role of Susan go to another actress, given that Ed had spent six years researching and writing the drama.

But when interviewed by Graham Norton, she suggested it had not all been plain sailing working with her other half: ‘We now know that I do my thing and he does his, and we are not allowed to talk about it – he tried to give me a note once, which went down like a cup of cold sick.’

The star of The Crown is now set to become part of Disney’s Marvel Universe, and US film fans are tipping her to be the British equivalent of Captain America. The rumour is that Colman will portray a genderswapped version of the Marvel superhero Union Jack.
