APPLE, DISNEY+, NETFLIX, SKY & PARAMOUNT DE NIRO SEASON DISNEY+ FILMS

Robert De Niro is one of the greatest actors of his generation and these are some of his finest films. Once

Upon A Time In America (right) is an epic New York gangster saga, also starring Downton Abbey’s Elizabeth McGovern. Heat is Michael Mann’s stylish, hugely influential crime drama, in which De Niro plays a career thief and Al Pacino is a detective on his case. King Of Comedy, with De Niro as a deluded wannabe comedian, was a commercial flop on its release but is now regarded as a classic and one of the key inspirations for 2019’s Joker.

From Friday

BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD PARAMOUNT+ COMEDY

The two teen idiots who starred in the animated satire on MTV in the 1990s are back for a new series. Beavis and Butt-Head are a couple of sniggering rock fans who ‘critique’ music videos and popular culture and society in general, and whose opinions are invariably crude and, we are promised, ‘stupider than ever’. BECOMING ELIZABETH STARZPLAY DRAMA

If you think politics is cut-throat now, take a look at this terrific period drama about the future Elizabeth I’s early years. When her father dies, the teenage

Princess (Alicia von Rittberg, right) finds herself surrounded by ruthless, power-hungry courtiers. The dialogue is contemporary but the historical content largely accurate. Also stars Jessica Raine and Romola Garai.

From Sunday

CRY MACHO SKY/NOW FILM

When the superlative Gran Torino was released in 2009, Clint Eastwood was already 78 years old. He’s now

92 and, not surprisingly, it’s beginning to show. But late, late career Clint is better than no Clint at all, so it’s worth giving this a chance, as the great man (above) saddles up to play a former rodeo star who reluctantly heads to Mexico to fetch the young son of an old friend who stuck by him when times were tough. Yes, it’s payback time. Again. From Friday

UNCOUPLED NETFLIX COMEDY

Fortysomething realtor Michael plans a surprise birthday party for his older boyfriend Colin, who springs a big shock – he’s dumping Michael (How I Met Your Mother’s Neil Patrick Harris) after 17 years. Michael’s awkward adjustment to being newly single and ‘old’ on the New York gay scene is created by Sex And The City’s Darren Star but is less camp and funny than his earlier hit.

DRAMA FIVE DAYS AT MEMORIAL APPLE TV+ DRAMA

When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005, the Memorial Medical Center was quickly overwhelmed by rising floodwater, losing power as the heat soared and medical supplies dwindled. The hospital had to implement its flood evacuation plan. The problem was that there was no flood evacuation plan, and very few rescue boats and helicopters. Exhausted doctors were faced with grim ethical dilemmas and had to make terrible decisions about which patients to save. Vera Farmiga (left) stars as Dr Anna Pou in the eight-episode drama, based on a book of the same name.

It will leave you wondering how this could happen in

21st Century America.

From Friday

TOP GUN: MAVERICK SKY STORE FILM

Having swept all before it at the cinema box office, the long awaited follow-up to the action movie that defined an era – as well as made superstars of its cast – Top Gun: Maverick finally arrives on digital platforms.
