Rodgers under pressure to stay Top man

- By Joe Bernstein

BRENDAN RODGERS says he’ll stay friends with club chairman Top Srivaddhanaprabha even if he sacks him as manager at Leicester City.

Rodgers is fighting for his job after sections of the crowd yesterday called for his dismissal after the goalless draw with Crystal Palace at the King Power that kept Leicester in deep relegation trouble.

Rodgers revealed he held ‘constructive’ talks with his boss before the game, but admitted he can’t guarantee he’ll still be in post in a week’s time if his team struggles against Leeds on Thursday and Wolves next weekend.

‘Top is a good guy. He wants to win and do well. There is no issue between us,’ Rodgers said.

‘He understands the difficulties there were going to be this year about not being able to improve, and he wants to win.

‘We had a long chat on Friday and I’ve had no indication... But I know what the game is like. We would remain friends if he ever had to make a decision. We are in a tough period, how long that lasts we’ll see.’

At the final whistle, Foxes fans chanted ‘We want Rodgers out’. They raised banners saying, ‘Board — the time for action is now!’

Rodgers said, ‘You are always open to criticism if you’re not winning games. I accept that.

‘I respect if there is going to be anger, it will be towards me. It can’t be towards the owners, they have been amazing here. It won’t shift my focus.

‘You are always going to be under criticism towards the bottom of the league. The critics were here when we were fifth and won the FA Cup. My dedication and focus is to the players and the next game.’
