Farke hails ‘electric’ first-half Leeds show
LEEDS sent Yorkshire neighbours Huddersfield back along the M62 with tails between legs, underlining their own promotion credentials with a four-goal first-half blitz as Crysencio Summerville and Dan James both scored twice.
Huddersfield were so swamped, at times it resembled a team of professionals playing part-timers in the early rounds of the FA Cup.
Terriers boss Darren Moore could only stand with hands plunged deep into his pockets wearing a sheepish look of embarrassment, as his defence disappeared into the West Yorkshire fog time after time.
Somewhere in Cornwall, Neil Warnock, who made way for Moore last month, might have felt a little smug. ‘It was an electrifying firsthalf with some unbelievable offensive work,’ said Leeds manager Daniel Farke.
‘When you’re four-nil up at halftime you cannot complain too much.
There were definitely bits and spells when it came pretty close to our ideal picture of football.’
Leeds had a Joel Piroe goal disallowed for offside before James curled home their opener following a quick counter involving Summerville and Georginio Rutter.
Summerville created the second with fancy footwork before rolling home a weak shot and it was soon three when James finished neatly from Summerville’s through pass. The fourth arrived in first-half stoppage time through Summerville after Rutter teed him up.
Huddersfield scored a secondhalf consolation through Michal Helik but look resigned to a relegation battle.
‘I take full responsibility in terms of where the team is at and they need, must and will show better,’ said Moore.
