Popping to Marks with her mum... the proof Naomi’s just like one of us (give or take £80m!)
SHE’S worth a reported £80 million and is an elegant icon of haute couture style – but it doesn’t mean Naomi Campbell is above nipping out to the shops in her trackies.
The supermodel was last week seen shopping at her local Marks & Spencer with her mum, and wearing baggy grey sportswear, just like a mere mortal.
However, one giveaway that this wasn’t any old shopper was the tiny handbag she carried, barely big enough for her phone, that comes from Chanel and has a £1,190 price tag. You could get quite a lot of Colin The Caterpillar cakes for that...
Ms Campbell, 53, was taking no chances with germs, as she also wore at various times a face mask and latex gloves, which concealed a huge diamond ring. Her 71-yearold mum Valerie Morris, a former dancer who raised her daughter as a single mother, also had a high-end handbag, a Balmain black quilted design that costs £1,283.
But the pricey accessories were overshadowed by the four bulky 40p paper bags the pair carried out of the London store.
Perhaps Ms Campbell needed to stock up as she has a growing family to feed. Her two-year-old daughter was joined by a son in June, born via surrogacy.
However the model rarely talks about her children, and is yet to reveal the name of either.
When her son was born in Los Angeles, a source close to her told the Daily Mail: ‘It came as a surprise to her wider circle as she only told a handful of people that she was becoming a mum for a second time. Suddenly she postponed a work commitment because she needed to be at her surrogate’s side and the next moment, she had a beautiful baby boy.
‘There was a lot of surprise, and of course happiness. This is what Naomi has always wanted. She is so very happy. She is so excited for her little girl to have a brother. She is looking forward to the years ahead with so much pride.’
The Mail on Sunday understands that Ms Campbell is raising her children on her own and is not in a relationship. She has previously had high-profile romances with the likes of rapper Skepta, actor Leonardo DiCaprio and Russian-born billionaire Vladislav Doronin.
Last month, London’s V&A Museum announced that its next major fashion exhibition, in 2024, will be dedicated to Ms Campbell – the first time a model has been honoured in that way.
