Who ? What ? Where ?

Our weekly quiz in which we ask you to figure out people, places and things in the news...

- STEVE BENNETT

WHO AM I?

● My first name means ‘born on a Sunday’… though I was actually born on a Monday.

● I went to Eton, which might explain my self-confidence. At my interview for Trinity College, Cambridge (below right), aged 17, I told the don: ‘Don’t worry, sir, you did fine.’

● In my first year there I appeared on University Challenge. My team won the series but I made the tabloids as I was heard muttering the f-word when I couldn’t remember an answer. ‘Rudiversity Challenge’ was the headline.

● I speak German, Greek and French and have been known to write poetry in Latin.

● In 2021, I became the first black Conservative Secretary of State when I took over the Business Department but my legacy will be as the second shortest-serving Chancellor in history. Last week I announced I’d be leaving politics altogether.

WHAT AM I?

● Tonight I’m happening for the 58th time.

● I will cause Americans to eat more today than any other day of the year, bar Thanksgiving, including a total of 1.4 billion chicken wings.

● Around £23 billion will be wagered on the outcome. Bets you can make include what colour fizzy drink will get tipped over someone at the end – aka ‘the Gatorade shower’. (Orange is 12/5 favourite).

● I attract the biggest stars in music such as U2, Prince and Madonna (above right) – but in 2015 the most talked-about moment was a man in a blue shark outfit dancing badly to Katy Perry. Also, the megastar musicians don’t get paid, it’s an expenses-only gig.

● Yet normal tickets can cost more than £6,500 and, in Las Vegas, where it’s happening, the airport is expecting around 1,000 private jets to bring the superrich to watch the sporting action.

● I was originally the AFL-NFL World Championship Game but a team owner came up with a catchier name when he heard his daughter playing with a bouncy ‘Super Ball’ and mispronouncing it.

WHERE AM I?

● I’m one of the oldest Christian structures in England and such an architectural treasure that, during the Second World War, locals stood on my roof to push off any bombs that landed on me.

● I have my own police force with powers of arrest.

● Traditionalists were furious last week when I hosted a 1990sthemed silent disco featuring the likes of Britney Spears – a slight change from the usual Hymns Ancient And Modern.

● Archbishop Thomas Becket was killed here in 1170… talk about Murder On The Dancefloor!

Answers: Kwasi Kwarteng, The Superbowl, Canterbury Cathedral.
