Beckhams poised to ‘crack America’ with Super Bowl ad

- By Katie Hind

DAVID and Victoria Beckham hope to ‘crack’ America when they are beamed into more than 120million US living rooms in a TV advert during the Super Bowl tonight.

The pair will be seen jokingly forgetting the name of Victoria’s pop group, the Spice Girls, in the advert for Uber Eats.

Last night, sources close to the Beckhams said they hope the skit will mark the moment they become household names throughout America. The couple remain relatively low-profile in the US – even after David arrived to huge fanfare to play for LA Galaxy in 2007, Victoria was able to go about her business unnoticed in Hollywood.

The Mail on Sunday can reveal that support from Victoria’s friend Kim Kardashian, America’s biggest social media influencer, is a key factor in changing that.

The women have become close friends after meeting on the ‘Los Angeles circuit’.

A friend of the Beckhams said: ‘Victoria has made some very high profile connections, including Kim. You get Kim to Instagram about you and you are going to be seen by 346million people. It has been a masterstroke.’

Sources close to the Beckhams also cite the recent Netflix documentary about their lives, Beckham, as the reason for their rise in profile. The four-parter was the most-watched show on the streaming giant in the US for weeks last year. Another factor – perhaps the most surprising – is their eldest son, Brooklyn, 24, who has become a social media star in America after marrying US actress and heiress Nicola Peltz, 29.

Besides the Spice Girls joke, the Beckhams also make a reference in the advert to the scene in the Netflix documentary when David teases his wife about being ‘honest’ about her affluent upbringing. Victoria is seen wearing a T-shirt with the slogan ‘My dad had a Rolls-Royce’ – a nod to her father Tony, who once drove her to school in the luxury car.
