Can I now fly to the land of the puffins?

-

Q I have heard that new direct flights are beginning to the Faroe Islands. Is this true and, if so, when? I’ve always been intrigued and wanted to visit.

Susan Greene, Ipswich

A Yes – Atlantic Airways, the Faroe Islands’ national carrier, begins Gatwick to Vagar flights on June 1, with returns from £240. There are also Edinburgh to Vagar return fares from £200 (atlanticairways.com). It’s a good time to go to the 18-island North Atlantic Ocean country, famous for its puffins, as a new sea tunnel was recently completed between the main island of Streymoy and Sandoy, opening up more of its dramatic landscape (visitfaroeislands.com).

Q I’m an 85-year-old widow who needs a stick even for short walks. Most UK breaks by coach involve walking to sights. Are there better-suited trips? Genny Hill, Portsmouth

A Try Limitless Travel, which offers holidays tailored to those with mobility restrictions. Trips include visits to the Isle of Wight, the Lake District, Wales and Cornwall. A five-day tour of the Lake District is from £1,199 full-board. Overseas breaks are also available (limitlesstravel.org).

Q My son is getting married in Majorca in June next year at a location between Palma and Soller. We need accommodation for family and guests. Any ideas? Carolyn Hatch, via email

A Try an ‘agroturismo’ rural hotel. Finca Sa Maniga, halfway between Palma and Soller, might fit the bill, with a pool and doubles from £98. The main building dates from 1901 and is on an estate with pretty grounds (fincasamaniga.com).

Q I have recurring tennis elbow and an NHS physio has put me forward to see a consultant in about five months. Most travel insurance companies will not offer a quote while I’m waiting. Is there one that will?

Alan Flowers, via email

A Yes. Total Travel Protection offers ‘Waiting list travel insurance’ (totaltravelprotection. com). See also staysure.co.uk and allcleartravel.co.uk.

Q We are visiting India then joining a cruise to Sri Lanka,

Thailand and Malaysia. What do I need to do for visas?

Sue Allen, Sittingbourne, Kent

A Apply online for an Indian visa, costing £29, at indianvisaonline.gov.in. A Sri Lankan tourist visa costing £16 can be obtained online a few days before travel (eta.gov.lk). No visas are required for Thailand or Malaysia.

Q Years ago my husband and I went on a package holiday to Patara Beach in Turkey. We want to return on another package but cannot find one.

Can you help?

Shirley Cooper, via email

A Not with a hotel directly by Patara Beach. The closest available package holidays now seem to be in the pretty port of Kalkan, five miles away and with its own beach. Seven nights at the Samara Exclusive Hotel is from £896pp B&B with Stansted flights and transfers in June (jet2.com).

Q What is the quickest and cheapest transfer from

Marco Polo Airport to Hotel Orsaria in Venice?

Wendy Bass, via email

A Catch an Atvo bus from the airport to Piazzale Roma, about 20-30 minutes – tickets cost £8.50 (atvo.it). Then it’s an eight-minute walk to your hotel.
