BBC’s silence over Rayner’s two homes row
In response to the proof published last week that Angela Rayner was lying about her properties, let’s remember how quick Labour was to demand resignations when Conservatives were involved in breaking lockdown rules. Note the deafening silence from Sir Keir Starmer and the BBC over this. Will Labour supporters be demanding Rayner resigns? Boris Johnson was hounded out for far less.

My long-standing partner and I still have separate houses, which we each correctly declare as our sole residence for council-tax purposes, though we stay with each other for varying lengths of time.
On returning from holidays, we will message friends and relatives to say, ‘We have arrived home’, whichever house we happen to be using at the time. So as far as Angela Rayner’s supposed property misdemeanours, the expression ‘making a mountain out of a molehill’ comes to mind.

The BBC insists that it is not biased but if a Tory MP steps out of line, it makes them the lead item on the news. With Labour it’s a different story. There has been barely any mention of Angela Rayner’s housing issue on the BBC News.

Why are the Conservatives out to get Angela Rayner? Is this a desperate dirty trick to stay in power? I don’t think for one second that it will work.

The Mail on Sunday rightly calls for scrutiny over the Rayner affair. This would hopefully reveal why Sir Keir Starmer has barely felt the need to defend her, claiming he hasn’t even read her tax advice ‘because he trusts her’.
Unless Starmer, a distinguished lawyer, can demonstrate, after giving Rayner’s tax advice due consideration, that he considers it exonerates her, he won’t dispel lingering doubts that he’s giving her 100 per cent support.

Angela Rayner must be grateful to Margaret Thatcher for her Right To Buy policy – a great scheme used by so many people. It’s worth noting her case concerns a family home that was kept out of council stock for personal gain.

Labour Party members get away with behaviour that would see a Tory forced to resign.

I trust Angela Rayner will practise what she preaches and resign. Sir Keir Starmer, a former Director of Public Prosecutions, showed such poor judgment by saying he was satisfied she did nothing wrong, should follow suit. But I won’t hold my breath.
