Is a week OK to see the Northern Lights?

- Solving all your travel conundrums Carol Hyams, Kent

QWe would like to go on a Northern Lights cruise for seven to ten days. There are three of us and I need to take my mobility scooter. Any ideas?

A To see the Northern Lights a bit more time is required, as the ship needs to sail to Norway, while it’s best to go December – April. Try the 13-day, full-board ‘Norway and Northern Lights’ P&O Aurora cruise in December or March from Southampton, with mobility specialist limitlesstravel.org from £5,765pp.

Q Can you advise on getting to Penzance for a long weekend by sleeper train from London without taking time off work on Friday? I want to treat my train-mad partner. And can you recommend a hotel?

Lizzie Garrett, Greenwich A Night Riviera Sleepers depart Paddington on Fridays at 11.45pm, arriving in Penzance, Cornwall, at 7.50am. Private cabins cost from £165 for two (gwr.com). Doubles at Hotel Penzance cost from £119 (hotelpenzance.com). Return day-time fares on Monday cost from about £70pp.

Q We want to fly to Melbourne in Australia in October. We would like to visit Dubai going out and Singapore on return. We are both over 6ft and would ideally like to fly Emirates business class. Can you help? Pam Wright, via email

A Your preferred route with Emirates is from £5,799pp. Or business class on Malaysia Airlines, via Kuala Lumpur, costs from £4,589pp, while premium economy on Singapore Airlines is from £2,719pp (trailfinders.com).

Q I visited Colombia in March with my passport stamped on entry but not on departure.

I was there for 14 days. Can I return in November?

John Bowler, via email

A Yes. Colombia has a 90-day maximum visa-less stay for tourists and your movements should be in its records.

Q Are there coach tours of Scotland with overnight stays that would suit my wife, who is 75 and cannot walk far?

Stephen Radcliffe, via email

A From Edinburgh, try a fourday A trip staying at the Highland Hotel by Fort William. It costs from £349pp, departing on June 30, and includes visits to the Isle of Skye and Glencoe (lochsandglens.com).

Q We are a group of four ladies who want a Paris break via Eurostar this summer with a hotel, a city tour and a visit to Versailles. Any advice? Pauline Davey, via email

A Trains and two rooms at La Petit Oberkampf Hotel and Spa from £700pp for three nights on August 6 (eurostar.com). Tours, including the Eiffel Tower and a Seine cruise, from £84pp (getyourguide.co.uk). Five-hour guided Versailles tours cost from £60 (viator.com).

Q We want to go to Bergen in Norway to visit the fjords. Can we fly from the Midlands? David Espin, via email

A Direct flights are not available. You can go from Birmingham via Copenhagen from £215 return, but there is a four-hour connection (flysas.com).
