Some ‘extremists’ are encouraged by Tories

George Kerevan: Gove’s plan to tackle ‘extremism’ will take us into sinister territory

I am not sure whether Michael Gove is more sensible or just more Machiavellian but we really are only a hair’s breadth away from banning pro-independence parties and banning supporters from public-sector jobs.

The irony is that the only actual political violence we have had recently is from the far-right bunch that Braverman called out to defend the Cenotaph from a non-existent threat and ended up fighting with the police. I suspect the Tories class them as the good guys though.

Couldn’t agree more with this article. The definition of extremist behaviour can be whatever the machine wants it to be. This proposal by Gove is just another incremental step on the road to an overt authoritarian regime.

The mask is slowly slipping and the majority of us are too distracted and anxious to notice or care. Keir Starmer will be no different if (when) he is elected.

That is why he will be elected – he is ready and willing to protect the status quo. Scotland must step off this ship of fools before it is too late.

It’s interesting how it is Gaza, and the mass murder of women and children by the UK-backed Israeli state, which has seen the UK political elite scramble for some kind of additional measures to shore up their credibility – in essence by shutting down protest, making it seem socially questionable.

Ultimately, it’s a doomed enterprise. There are too many great books out there like The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine by Rashid Khalidi and The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine by the Jewish scholar Illan Pappe, who was also interviewed by Chris Hedges on YouTube the other day in “The Myth of Israel’s Democracy...” which is worth watching.

Of course, what is happening to Israel is ALSO a tragedy, albeit of a different kind. Their dream of a Western liberal democracy in the Middle East is in tatters, with people arrested/cancelled for even questioning the war in Gaza. With such a fascistic foreign policy, it was only a matter of time before Israel lurched to draconian, authoritarian policies back home too, a process under way for decades now and which had seen daily street protests by liberal Israeli citizens in the run-up to October 7.

This is what is happening in Britain too. Which is another reason we should all care about UK foreign policy – it tends to replicate its worst excesses on its native population in the homeland...

More reason to keep protesting against those Israeli bombs paid for by US taxpayers which continue to rain down on innocent women and children who, if that weren’t enough, are also being starved to death.

The extremists are all in the Tory and Labour parties, not the protest groups out on the streets. Wendy Rivers
