For The Love Of Dogs With Alison Hammond (STV, 8pm)

FINDING a forever home for one dog can be tough but finding an owner who can take on two is even trickier. So perhaps it’s not surprising that two of the longest-standing residents at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home are a couple of inseparable golden labradors, who definitely come as a pair. Will anyone open their home and heart to both of them? Presenter Alison Hammond also meets a three-monthold whippet who is having swimming lessons and befriends a shy Maltese with trust issues.

Changing Ends (STV, 8.30pm)

THE entertaining sitcom inspired by comedian Alan Carr’s early life continues, as his football manager dad (Shaun Dooley) hopes that a new striker could provide the Cobblers with a lifeline. Unfortunately, while the new signing may be talented, he’s also troubled – can he keep it together on the pitch? Meanwhile, young Alan (the wonderful Oliver Savell) is more interested in bird watching than football, so when it’s reported that a pelican is on the loose, he’s keen to see it for himself.

Holidaying In The 70s: Wish You Were Here (C5, 9pm)

A NEW two-part documentary whisks us back to the decade in which the package holiday really took off as Brits decided that they’d rather soak up the Mediterranean sun than stay beside the seaside at home. However, as the first episode reminds us, while the weather may have been better, relaxation was far from guaranteed. Benidorm in particular became such a go-to destination that new hotels started to spring up – and holidaymakers arrived to find themselves surrounded by noisy building sites.

Salman Rushdie: Through A Glass Darkly (BBC2, 9pm)

WHEN Salman Rushdie published his novel The Satanic Verses in 1988, he became the subject of several death threats, including a fatwa. However, he felt he’d been able to move on – until in 2022, while on stage in Chautauqua, New York state, to discuss the importance of protecting the freedom of writers, a man emerged from the audience and attacked him with a knife. In this exclusive interview, the author talks to Alan Yentob about the incident’s devastating effects.
