TONIGHT’S TV PICK
Better Off Dead? (BBC1, 9pm)
A HOUSE of Commons select committee has launched an inquiry into the possible legalisation of assisted suicide, while MSP Liam McArthur has introduced a Member’s Bill at Holyrood. A poll suggested the majority of people support doctor-assisted suicide for the terminally ill. However, Liz Carr and others with disabilities believe any change in the law sends a message that they are less valued. The actress and activist is embarking on an investigation which involves speaking to those on both sides of the debate.
Holidaying In The 70s: Wish You Were Here (C5, 9pm)
THE conclusion to the two-part documentary looking back at the boom in foreign travel focuses largely on Freddie Laker. He launched Laker Airways in 1966, helping to pave the way for affordable package holidays abroad, but, despite initial success, was grounded forever in 1982. There’s also a look at the rise in popularity of skiing breaks and Tony Walker, whose backpacking exploits in the 1970s led to the creation of the Lonely Planet travel guides.
Praying For Armageddon – Storyville (BBC4, 10pm)
TONJE Hessen Schei and Michael Rowley’s chilling documentary looks at the fusion between American politics and Evangelical Christians and their quest to bring on the Apocalypse. From a grassroots foundation with crusading bikers and megachurch empires with passionate pastors to the dark backroom manoeuvring by congressmen in Washington DC, the film takes a deep dive into power and policy. Using the investigative journalism of Lee Fang, it unveils how US politicians driven by faith embrace Israel as the key to their prophetic vision for the end of days.
Tokyo Vice (BBC1, 11.10pm)
THE glossy US crime drama inspired by the real-life experiences of American journalist Jake Adelstein, who spent many years working in Japan, is back for its second season, starting with a double-bill of episodes. Jake (Ansel Elgort) is sent a videotape containing terrifying images, and enlists the help of Detective Katagiri (Ken Watanabe) in an attempt to find out what is going on. Samantha launches her own club, but later has to deal with a thief on the premises.
