TRIP TO SHOPS NETS A STRIKER!

- By Matt Badcock

HE SIGNED in the car park at Sheffield shopping mecca Meadowhall – and Callum Chippendale is already showing in pre-season how keen he is to get motoring at Boston United.

The 19-year-old joined Dennis Greene’s Pilgrims in the summer from their National League North rivals Bradford Park Avenue.

Capable of playing as a No.10 or out wide, Chippendale has also enjoyed a midfield role in their warm-up games.

He scored a hat-trick against Stamford last weekend, before making it four in two by notching another in their 3-1 win over King’s Lynn.

And he can’t wait for the season to get going.

“It was nice to get everything sorted a while ago,” Chippendale said.

“I met the secretary at Meadowhall, literally outside in the car park. There was a picture on twitter and people recognised where it was. They were asking if I got a meal at Nandos in the signing on fee! It’s been easy to settle in. It’s quite a new team, so a lot of us didn’t know each other.

“We’ve gelled really well and I’m really enjoying it.

“The club is class. It’s a big club, a nice set-up and a good ground. The gaffer has really helped me feel comfortable in the team.

“He’s told me to calm down on the ball and get myself around the box to score goals. He stressed that to me on Saturday and I came away with three goals.

“One of the things pre-season is about for me is nailing down that shirt. We will see on Saturday if I’ve been successful.”

Injury to older brother Aidan, 24, means there won’t be a Chippendale showdown on the opening day when they take on Stalybridge Celtic.

Operation

While the family wait for that later in the campaign, Chippendale says being able to help each other with scouting reports on upcoming opponents is a big plus. “He had an operation on his shoulder a few weeks ago, so he won’t be able to play,” said the former Bradford City and Barnsley man. “I’m gutted about that. I’ve always wanted to play against him! I’ve got my eyes on the second game. “He’s given me lots of good advice, though, and he’s pleased to see I’ve got some goals in pre-season.

“But he knows it’s about keeping it going.

“It looks like it will be one of the best divisions in a while. My brother agreed with me. There will be a lot of teams fighting for it.

“We can help each other with a bit of info on other teams, but if we beat them he won’t hear the end of it for weeks.”
