RANKINE STRIKES AS LIONS FINALLY ROAR ROUND-UP

- By Joshua Peck

WITH just one week to go before the National League campaign for both sides begins, Guiseley came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Curzon Ashton.

Guiseley started the game the brighter but their Step 2 opponents took the lead on 19 minutes. Michael Potts found Connor Hampson in an advanced position and the left-back slotted home past Dan Atkinson. The hosts doubled their lead when Iain Howard tapped home a Niall Cummins cross.

Four minutes before the break though and Guiseley pulled one back when home keeper Cameron Mason dropped a cross from Nicky Clee to the feet of Jordan Preston who had the simple task of slotting home.

And the comeback was complete on 68 minutes when Michael Rankine fired home a low free-kick from 20 yards. Guiseley weren’t the only teams on the comeback trail with Ryman Premier Dulwich Hamlet turning it around against Isthmian champions Hampton & Richmond to win 3-2.

Hampton were 2-0 up after 14 minutes through Michael Kamara and Nicke Kabamba.

Ashley Carew pulled one back for Hamlet before the break with Omar Koroma levelling the scores. Nathan Green scored the goal of the match with what turned out to be the winner as his fine run and thunderous shot giving the visitors the victory.

Elsewhere, Peninsula League champions Bodmin Town were 2-1 winners at Taunton, Adam Kelly’s freekick proving just a consolation following strikes from Lee Doel and Steve Bowker.

Fisher celebrated their return to Rotherhithe after a 12-year exodus with a convincing 4-0 win against a well prepared Farnborough OBG side.

Playing their first game at the new St Paul’s Stadium across the road from the former home of Fisher Athletic, Troy Abbey, Alfie Roche, interim manager Rob Curtis and Harry Budgen all got on the scoresheet.

On Friday, Paulton Rovers lost 6-1 at home to a slick Weston-super-Mare with Jake Mawford netting four times.
