Humphreys cuts down Foresters

CINDERFORD T 1 HAYES & Y U 2

- By Paul Webb

HAYES & YEADING scored two goals in six minutes either side of a home equaliser to pick up an important win at a fellow early-season struggler.

Cinderford started strongly as a Sammy Hicks cross was flicked on by Gethyn Hill, but United keeper Louis Wells beat Blaine Waugh to the ball.

The visitors then had two glorious chances to take the lead, first from a Sam Humphreys cross found Dylan Kearney who, with time to take careful aim, blazed his effort over the crossbar.

Then, following defensive hesitation, Melford Simpson screwed his strike woefully wide.

Sam Hunt had the home team’s best chance of the half, with his free-kick bringing a diving save from Wells.

Foresters custodian Ben Fletcher kept out Adam Everitt’s long-range drive, before Wells lost the ball outside his area and Hill’s skilful lob drifted inches wide to the visitors’ relief.

The lively Hill, a product of Cardiff City’s youth system and a former Wales Under-19 international, was denied on two further occasions before the home side were reduced to ten men when Waugh was dismissed for a perceived stamp on Wells.

Cinderford manager Chris Burns was also sent off for his protests.

Hayes & Yeading took the lead on 69 minutes when Yannis Ambroisine scrambled home a corner.

Back came Town, with Hicks coming close before providing the cross that Hill headed home off the woodwork just four minutes after they fell behind.

But with 15 minutes to go, a superb drive from Humphreys grabbed all three points for United.

The Foresters’ frustration was summed up when captain Josh Nelmes collected his second yellow card as his team finished with nine men.
