FANS FLOCK TO 3G PITCH BUT CITIZENS RUIN PARTY

- By Chris Smart

THE FIRST match on Bala

Town’s new Maes Tegid 3G pitch was watched by one of the biggest Welsh Premier League crowds – 857 – and provided entertaining football as a 1-1 result took

Bangor City into third spot. Bala, despite being reduced to ten men seven minutes from time when Tony Davies was sent off for a second yellow card following a foul on Jordan Davies, finished the stronger.

After a goalless first half during which Bangor was more dangerous, the Citizens opened the scoring in the 52nd minute when Dan Nardiello slotted the ball home unmarked following good work by Christian Langios and Rodrigo Branco.

The Lakesiders came into their own as the game wore on and grabbed the equaliser ten minutes from time through Mike Hayes.

Bangor manager Andy Legg said the match was a good advertisement for the league but felt his side should have taken the three points. “We had enough chances to have won but did not take them,” he said.

A brace of goals from Ryan Edwards fired Airbus UK to a 4-2 victory over Newtown at Lathan Park, with the Robins slipping to the foot of the table.

And Cardiff Metropolitan secured a third victory inside a week as they beat Aberystwyth

Town 1-0 at Cyncoed. The decisive moment came in the 62nd minute when substitute Chris Baker picked up a throw in on the edge of the area and hit a magnificent looping shot from an angled position to find the net.

Just one point separates the top six clubs in the first division of the Welsh League after a fascinating set of results. Gwent side Goytre and Caerau

Ely drew 1-1 to move onto the 14point mark and they were joined by ambitious Barry Town

United, who romped to a 5-2 victory over Caldicot Town.

One point behind the leading trio are Cwmbran Celtic, who were knocked off the top when they lost 1-0 at Undy Athletic.

Cambrian and Clydach were 2-1 winners at Goytre United courtesy of goals by Mark Crutch and Jason Bertorelli and Ton Pentre who won 2-1 at Risca.

Port Talbot recorded their second win of the season beating

Taffs Well thanks to a last-minute goal by Aaron Biddescombe.

Llanelli Town continue to lead the second division with a 100-percent record despite being without Lee Trundle. They won 5-3 at

Llwydcoed, with Jordan Follows bagging four goals. Llantwit Major, with four wins from as many starts, top the third division.

Prestatyn Town dropped their first points of their Cymru Alliance campaign when they were held to a 1-1 home draw by

Porthmadog. But they are still on top of the table, two points clear of Caernarfon Town.

Chris Jones fired Porthmadog into the lead on 53 minute, but their advantage was short-lived as Prestatyn levelled two minutes later through Mike Parker.

Caernarfon could have joined Prestatyn on the 22-point mark but they too were held to a 1-1 draw by Caersws.

Asa Thomas bagged a splendid hat-trick for Holyhead Hotspur as they romped to a 4-0 success at Llanfair United. Gresford Athletic also looked impressive as they overcame Denbigh Town 4-2 thanks to a brace by Jake Eyre. Lee Healey bagged a brace for Holywell Town who beat Conwy 4-1 while a Mike Gornall penalty was sufficient to give Penrhyncoch victory at Ruthin Town. Buckley Town and Flint Town drew 1-1 while Mold and Guilsfield fought out a 2-2 stalemate.
