Angels act as a shining example

-

I READ with intrigue about the current financial plight of Lowestoft Town (NLP,

September 18) and sympathise enormously with them.

Having served for a long period of time as a director of Tonbridge Angels it is easy to see how these situations arise; ambitious directors and management, fans with high expectations and inadequate commercial acumen.

Failure on the pitch leads to disenchantment and quickly the gates diminish which in turn exacerbates an already stretched Club. Once the rot sets in it becomes extremely difficult to ‘turn the tide’.

Lowestoft are in our league (Ryman Premier) this season and I wish them all the very best for a speedy return to health.

In contrast, the Angels are very healthy, managed by the excellent Steve McKimm and progressing nicely under a realistic, cautiously ambitious board of directors headed up by chairman Steve Churcher.

Collectively, the entire organisation is functioning in a manner that should serve as a beacon to other clubs at our, and every level, of football, operating within our means and with efficient house keeping every step of the way.

My message is one of hope for Lowestoft Town (and others) if they can come to terms with not living beyond their means, not relying on single benefactors and establishing a strong, active and qualified board of directors.

I really do wish them well for a healthy future. COLIN FRY, Tonbridge Angels fC
