Pico-Gomez picks off sad Suds

- By Mark Murphy

KINGSTONIAN sealed their biggest win of the season thanks to an excellent second-half display.

AFC Sudbury had the better of a tight first half and the game changed when Liam Wales chipped horribly wide on 47 minutes when wellplaced.

A minute later, Pelayo Pico-Gomez gave Ks the lead with a brilliantly placed leftfoot strike from 25 yards.

And Ks were the better side thereafter, denied a more convincing victory by excellent keeping from Suds custodian Marcus Garnham.

Chances, and space, were at a premium in the opening half-hour, with Ks enjoying plenty of possession but Sudbury harrying and closing down effectively.

But the Suds should have led at the break after finishing the half strongly.

An unmarked Craig Parker headed Robert Eagle’s 37thminute corner wide.

Five minutes later Sam Bantick fired over a gaping goal after Parker’s right-foot shot was well saved by Ks keeper Rob Tolfrey.

And Jordan Blackwell lobbed over right on half-time when he had more time than he thought.

Pico-Gomez broke the deadlock after Aaron Lamont’s right-foot shot was saved by Garnham and rebounded to him.

He still had plenty to do but his shot was pinpoint accurate and Garnham had no chance.

Garnham saved superbly from Joe Turner on 53 minutes before tipping another Pico-Gomez shot onto the post in the 70th minute and blocking Youssef Bamba’s fierce 75th-minute drive.

But he was helpless a minute later when Alan Inns powerfully headed home Bamba’s right-wing cross.

And six minutes later, Turner emphatically converted sub Tom Derry’s lobbed pass to complete the scoring.
