STEVE’S ON THE SPOT TO POWER DOLHPINS

- By Rob Overfield

HAMPTON & R 0 POOLE T 2

POOLE TOWN left their first ever visit to the Beveree wit hthree points but in a game where Hampton had more of the possession, they could count themselves somewhat fortunate.

The best chance of the first half fell to the Beavers’ Jay Gasson, whose header on 23 minutes was cleared off the line.

The game didn’t really get going much in the second half other than an early shot from Hampton’s Jamal Lowe which flew wide from the angle of the box.

Chances were few and far between for both sides until the Dolphins took the lead just before the hour.

The Beavers’ Michael Kamara got turned by Steve Devlin towards the byline, but in trying to prevent a cross, he clipped the midfielder’s heels and the referee awarded the penalty.

Devlin stepped up to fire the ball past Hampton keeper Aaron Howe to put the visitors one up.

Hampton kept attacking, but the Poole defence stayed strong and little got through to threaten Nick Hutchings in goal.

With just 15 minutes to go, Hampton were caught on the break as they pressed for the equaliser as a ball over the top found Sam Surridge who beat the onrushing Aaron Howe, and the ball was slid under the keeper to confirm the points.
