MARVEL MILLER’S FUELLING WHITES

- By Tom Feaheny

DOVER ATHLETIC kept up their playoff charge with a comfortable 4-0 win at Guiseley.

Athletic scored twice through leading scorer Ricky Miller while Ricky Modeste and Ross Lafayette got one each as the Whites’ class showed.

Dover boss Chris Kinnear said: “This is a good win for the side, we put in a performance that deserved it.

“We know we are in a battle with other sides to get into the play-offs so we have to maintain high standards and keep getting the results.”

The away side started the brighter and looked dangerous throughout, first a long ball bounced through to Modeste but his shot went wide with Guiseley keeper Jonny Maxted closing the angle down.

Dover soon took the lead when Miller found space in the area and on the turn found the bottom corner.

Guiseley tried to find a way back into the game but Jake Cassidy could only head Kevan Hurst’s corner wide.

The second half saw Guiseley push forward with Alex Purver firing a snap shot just wide.

Miller looked set to double Dover’s lead when a ball went past the Guiseley defence but his lob struck the bar.

The Whites, though, got their second when a cross from Moses Emmanuel found Modeste who headed in from close range.

Dover wrapped up the win when Miller was fouled in the area by Marcus Williams, and he duly got up and scored the penalty.

In added time Dover got a fourth when Lafayette scored from the spot after being fouled by Jake Lawlor.

Guiseley boss Adam Lockwood said his side have to start another unbeaten run against Southport next week.

“I’m disappointed to lose this one, we know we have to get more points on the board to ensure we stay in this division,” he said.
