KIERON AT THE DOUBLE FOR U’S

- By Michael Thurloway

SUTTON UNITED delivered a dominant display as they dismantled North Ferriby United at Gander Green Lane, running out 5-1 victors as Kieron Cadogan scored twice.

The result compounded the relegation fears of the visitors, who started both halves brightly but quickly wilted amid Sutton’s slick play.

As soon as Roarie Deacon opened the scoring on 14 minutes, Sutton looked destined to keep the points, and strikes from Jamie Collins and Maxime Biamou all-but confirmed it by half time.

While Ferriby struck back soon after the break, Sutton remained the more dangerous side, and Cadogan bagged a brace in the final half-hour to secure the win.

Deacon’s goal capped a fairly even opening, the winger finishing clinically past Rory Watson after latching onto Kevin Amakwaah’s pull-back.

North Ferriby manager Steve Housham said: “When the first goal went in our heads went down and you could see we were a beaten side.” The home side didn’t look back, and doubled their lead on 23 minutes through Collins’ blasted volley. And Biamou killed off any doubt over the result shortly after the half-hour, tapping in from inches out at the back post after Cadogan’s drilled cross. Ferriby came out fighting in the second period, Robbie Tinkler restoring hope three minutes after the break by slotting past Will Puddy. But they couldn’t sustain the pressure, and shortly after the hour Biamou and Cadogan swapped roles from the third goal, with Cadogan clipping the ball over the onrushing Watson to cap a lethal counter. Cadogan got his second seven minutes from time, drilling in a stunning drive from 20 yards through a crowded penalty area. Sutton manager Paul Doswell said: “There are no easy games at this level, but we made it look easy today.”
