LLOYD NETS LATE DRIVE TO SNATCH KEY POINTS

STOCKPORT 2 TAMWORTH 1

DANNY LLOYD’S winner sealed a spectacular come-from-behind victory for play-off chasing Stockport County.

In a soporific opening to the game, the closest either side got to a goal was Tamworth’s Danny Newton’s low shot straight at County keeper Ben Hinchliffe.

The away side began to assume dominance as the half wore on and it was no surprise when Callum Powell stood a cross up to the far post for Ross Dyer to nod home on 29 minutes.

Tamworth should have doubled their lead just before half-time. Andy Burns played a neat one-two with Connor Taylor but fired wide when he should have hit the target.

County came out the blocks firing after the break and Sam Minihan and Lewis Montrose went close with efforts.

They kept the pressure on throughout the half and their endeavour paid off after a goalmouth scramble, with captain Mark Ross striking home through a crowd of defenders in the 73rd minute.

County weren’t finished there and netted a second on 81 minutes when Kaine Felix found Lloyd in the area. His low shot beat James Belshaw’s right hand.

County were denied a third by a stunning Belshaw save from a Jimmy Ball header, but they had done enough for the victory.
