WARRINGTON HOLD ON

- By Ian Richardson

MATLOCK TOWN 1 WARRINGTON 1

THE TEN men of Warrington held on for a point.

The Wire went in front on 23 minutes against the run of play when Michael Bakaro, slammed home the rebound after his initial strike had been saved by Phil Barnes.

Controversy started then with Matlock claiming a hand ball in Warrington’s clearance and there was more to come.

Marc Newsham had a goal disallowed for offside as his header deflected off a defender with another Warrington player on the line.

Then on the stroke of half time Warrington had midfield Mitchell Duggan sent off for a poor challenge.

Overall Matlock had most of the play and had they lost it would have been an injustice.

That was finally broken after one or two close shaves on 65 minutes when Dwayne Wiley towered above the Yellow’s defence to parry the header which Morrison forced home and it was the least Matlock deserved.

After then it was a case of if only for the hosts and possibly a paraphrase of their season.

Marcus Dinanga shot too high when well placed.

The visitors deserved credit for keeping Matlock out but the Gladiators will feel they deserve more and would possibly look to referee Greg Rollinson.
