HENDON 1 WINGATE & FINCHLEY 1

- By David Ballheimer

RIAN BRAY headed an 86th-minute equaliser to give Hendon a Wednesday replay after Wingate and Finchley had taken an early second-half lead.

The visitors were on the front foot for the first ten minutes and Marc Charles-Smith was denied by Greens keeper Tom Lovelock after four minutes.

Hendon gradually got a foothold in the game and had three chances in six minutes midway through the half.

Niko Muir was blocked by Gate keeper Shane Gore, who was quickly off his line to narrow the angle for the striker.

Matt Ball then had his 25-yard free-kick well tipped aside by Gore.

But the closest Hendon came to breaking the first-half deadlock was on 25 minutes when Reis Stanislaus fired wide from a good position.

A minute into the second half, Wingate did break the deadlock when ex-Hendon freekick expert Spencer McCall gave Lovelock no chance from a beautifully curled 25-yard dead ball.

Rob Laney then forced a saved from Lovelock with a looping header.

But with ten minutes to go, Hendon finally upped their game and started to apply serious pressure.

Zak Joseph fired just over and before centrehalf Bray was left unmarked to head home.

In stoppage-time, Hendon’s Ashley Nathanial-George fired wide from a great position.
