TIGERS TAKE A BORO BITE

- By Will Baines

Hyde United came out on top in this lively battle of the Evo-Stik North sides in front of over 2,000 fans at the Flamingo Land Stadium.

With the prize of a place in the first round draw at their fingertips, it was the Tigers who progressed, with first-half goals from Matty Beadle and Luke Porritt sending Hyde through.

The home side had the chances to get ahead early on with Max Wright firing straight at Hyde goalkeeper Peter Crook from the edge of the area.

Soon after Billy Logan had time and space, but could only back heel through to Crook when well placed.

As those chances slipped away, the initiative swung to the visitors and they made the home side pay in clinical fashion.

After a promising opening, the defensive frailties for Scarborough returned on 13 minutes as Hyde took the lead.

A corner was whipped in from the left for Matty Beadle to ghost in at the near-post unmarked, and he powered a header into the top corner.

After silencing the home crowd, Hyde looked happy to sit on their lead.

But with half-time looming, the Tigers delivered a decisive blow with a second goal just before the break. A ball from the right skipped across the turf and found its way across the Boro defence for Luke Porritt to turn the ball home.

In the second half Scarborough huffed and puffed to find a way back into the game, but could not apply the finishing touch. Michael Coulson whipped a free-kick just wide, before Nathan Valentine found the ball at his feet in the sixyard box, but could not get it out and towards goal as the frustration grew for the vocal home support.

Tommy Taylor prevented Hyde from starting their celebrations early with a late save as Tom Pratt broke clear as Boro committed men forward, but the away fans did not have to wait long on a day to remember for Tigers supporters.
