Away form continues for Terras

- By John Walker

ST NEOTS TOWN 1 WEYMOUTH 2

WEYMOUTH retuned to Dorset happy to have taken full points on the road after surviving a torrid last half-hour.

After conceding two rather sloppy goals, St Neots rolled up their sleeves to deservedly get back into the match and they should have gone on to get at least a share of the points but failed to convert their superior possession into goals.

The match was marred by some over-officious refereeing that saw one player sent off and five others booked in a match devoid of a bad tackle.

The visitors went ahead after five minutes when a Mark Cooper cross was not cleared and Brandon Goodship drove home from the edge of the area.

But the lead was not always strongly-held as goalkeeper Mark Travers saved well from Scott Sinclair at the other end when the Town man was in a very promising position in the visitors’ penalty box.

A second goal came four minutes after half-time when Goodship set up Harry Baker for a simple finish, which seemed to have cemented the result.

However, St Neots had other ideas. After Johnny Herd had reduced the arrears with the best goal of the match in the 64th minute following clever play between Sinclair and Dylan Williams, the pattern of the match changed.

Tom Meechan and Kyron Wiltshire had chances not taken and the Terras held out for their victory.

But the game didn’t finish with the full complement of players as Wiltshire was sent off for a second yellow-card offence four minutes into added time as St Neots’ frustrations showed through.

But Weymouth returned to the coast content, continuing their remarkable away form which has seen them win five out of six on the road.
