BUDGET CUTS WERE BEHIND Ks BOSS’ EXIT
CRAIG Edwards admits that an impromptu earlyseason budget cut was behind his shock resignation as manager of Kingstonian this week.
The no-nonsense boss somehow saved the Ks from relegation in the Isthmian Premier division last season and guided them to a healthy top-half position in this campaign before surprisingly walking out after Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat at Brightlingsea Regent.
But in an open and honest statement to angry supporters this week, the former Billericay Town chief admitted he was “drained of any energy and enthusiasm” to take the club further.
“It is with great sadness that I have tendered my resignation at Kingstonian FC,” he said.
“There are a few reasons but the main one is the budget cut. It’s not the amount nor the fact that it is softened by the Boost the Budget scheme. It has drained me of any energy and enthusiasm, and that is my biggest attribute.
“At the end-ofseason presentation, it was my intention to leave but the chairman presented a decent package, although roughly £700 less than the previous year’s budget, and persuaded me to stay. “It was something I felt I could work with and be successful but to have that cut one month into the season was something I took very personally and, at worse, felt I had been misled.” Joint chairman John Fenwick, who appointed former first-team boss Kim Harris as interim manager, said: “It is with the utmost regret that we have received Craig’s resignation and we will place on record our appreciation of the job he did since his appointment, not only keeping us in the Premier Division last term but taking us into the top half of the division this time around.”
