HYDE SEEKS ALL MAGPIES ACCLAIM AS WHITES WILT

- By Jason Burns

JAKE Hyde’s injury-time tap-in grabbed an unlikely point for Maidenhead in wet and blustery conditions at Crabble.

The striker stabbed home after sub Adrian Clifton headed the ball into his path via a deflection off Manny Parry following a run and cross from Rene Steer.

Ryan Bird’s towering header from sub Kadell Daniel’s centre in the 76th minute seemed to have won the game for Chris Kinnear’s men until Hyde struck with the last kick of the game.

“We worked really hard in the game” said Magpies coach Sam Lock. “It was not one for the spectators, but we battled to the end and got a deserved point.

“It was a difficult game to play and the conditions made it a bit scrappy. They were time wasting quite a bit, but that came back to bite them. It’s a fantastic point.”

Maidenhead’s former Whites striker Moses Emmanuel, who joined on loan from Sutton just 24 hours previous, volleyed over an early warning before Dean Inman headed a long throw into the arms of home keeper Mitch Walker.

At the other end, Mitch Brundle fired just wide from 25 yards before the skipper popped up in the right place to block Hyde’s curling effort.

Alan Devonshire’s Maidenhead went mighty close at the start of the second half when Jake Goodman’s 18-yard effort bounced off the crossbar and over with Walker beaten and the defender also headed Massey’s set piece the wrong side of the post minutes later.

But it was Dover who showed first on 76 minutes through Bird, who then almost doubled the advantage shortly after, striking the outside of the post with a low drive. But just when Kinnear thought Bird’s effort would seal the points, Hyde popped up to equalise at the death – the first goal the Whites have conceded in four matches at Crabble. “That is what happens,” said the Dover boss. “We have won points with the last kick of the game and today there were five other games with lastminute goals in the National League. “We are disappointed as [Maidenhead] have not had many chances, but they nicked it at the end and we just have to move on. “That is six unbeaten in the league, so the lads have been doing great and it is just one of those things we have to accept in unbelievable conditions.”
