Mills gets Bulls back on track

- By Richard Prime

TWO goals from in-form striker John Mills and a late header from Mike Symons got Hereford back to winning ways after their surprise midweek home defeat against Farnborough.

Chances were few and far between in the first period as both sides struggled to come to terms with difficult conditions featuring frequent blustery downpours on a miserable autumnal day.

The game’s opening goal, however, came from the only real quality move of the half, five minutes before the break. Lance Smith received a pass wide out before slipping the ball through to Dara O’Shea.

The Republic of Ireland Under-19 international defender whipped in a cross which Mills lashed first time past Kings Langley goalkeeper Martin Bennett.

The prolific marksman wasted little time in doubling his tally at the start of the second period to put Hereford firmly in command at Edgar Street.

Mills picked up a loose ball in the penalty area, dribbled past a Kings Langley defender and rounded Bennett before nervelessly sliding the ball home in the 47th minute.

Substitute Brendan Ocran went close to reducing the arrears for Hertfordshire-based Kings with a neat effort which flashed narrowly wide shortly afterwards.

Bennett then saved well from Smith as Hereford continued to have the better of the action.

But the visitors still had their moments and Ryan Green had to head the ball clear from the goal line after Bulls keeper Martin Horsell struggled to deal with an Ocran effort.

Six minutes from the end, substitute Symons rounded things off by heading in an excellent corner from Rob Purdie to send the majority of the 2,300-strong crowd home happy.
