SKEM IN URGENT PLEA FOR SUPPORT

- By Joshua Peck

SKELMERSDALE United have appealed for all the financial help they can get after being locked out of their stadium.

The EVO-STIK North side were forced to play yesterday’s ‘home’ clash with Radcliffe at Marine, where they will also host Mossley next weekend, after their Uretek stadium was subject to seizing by order of the current landlord with bailiffs and locksmiths attending the premises without warning to prevent entry last weekend. Skem will then play their home games at Prescot Cables.

It got worse for the club when the ground was broken into on Monday, with alcohol, the safe and other items stolen.

And chairman Paul Griffiths was quick to remind fans, staff and the public what offers there are in terms of sponsoring the club.

Griffiths said: “The costs of running a football club at our level vastly exceed the income generated by admission charges. If the story begun in 1882 is to continue, the shortfall has to be covered.

“That is why we respectfully ask you to consider whether you or your business could direct a portion of your budget towards supporting our efforts.”

Burscough owner Martin Gilchrist also owns Uretek stadium, which Skem have been locked out of.
