RICHARDS RIFLES IN A LAST-GASP STUNNER

- By Colin Payne

CHELMSFORD’S trip to Chippenham ended with a twist in the tale, as the Clarets were beaten by a last minute winner moments after getting back on level terms.

Town took the lead on 27 minutes, thanks in part to a mistake by visiting keeper Samuel Beasant, who grasped the air when coming to catch a long throw-in, with the ball falling to David Pratt who opened the scoring.

Beasant then had no chance when Scott Twine rifled the ball home on 42 minutes to double the home team’s tally.

And the Bluebirds almost had another on the stroke of half-time, but this time Beasant denied Will Richards.

The second period saw Town’s Andy Sandell and Twine off target as the hosts looked to extend their lead, before a dubious penalty decision went Chelmsford’s way on 56 minutes.

Jared Thompson saved Chris Dickson’s spot kick, only for Michael Spillane to score from the rebound.

The Clarets searched for an equaliser, with Dickson and Spillane coming close, before they finally levelled through Christian Assombalonga with two minutes remaining.

But the visitors’ elation turned to despair as Will Richards snatched a 90th minute winner. STAR MAN: Will Richards (Chippenham Town) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
