BURGESS HILL were ten min­utes from vic­tory against Mar­gate – but still man­aged to im­prove on their re­cent run of poor form.

The Hil­lians started brightly cre­at­ing a num­ber of good early chances, al­though Mar­gate re­sponded well.

The hosts were un­for­tu­nate not to ben­e­fit from a goal­mouth scram­ble in the Mar­gate box.

It nearly led to the opener, but the ball wouldn’t fall for Lee Hard­ing.

Mar­gate cre­ated many chances of their own, with Hil­lians skip­per Gary El­ph­ick pre­vent­ing a cer­tain Mar­gate goal, with a bril­liant last-ditch tackle.

How­ever, the dead­lock was bro­ken on 68 min­utes, with Hil­lians sub­sti­tute Lu­cas Ro­drigues open­ing the scor­ing.

It was a fan­tas­tic sub­sti­tu­tion from Hil­lians man­ager Ian Chap­man, and looked like prov­ing de­ci­sive

How­ever just 10 min­utes after Ro­drigues’ opener, Mar­gate found an equaliser.

Kane Haysman was the man in the right place at the right time, to vol­ley the ball home.

The Hil­lians searched for a win­ner, but Mar­gate keeper Lenny Pidge­ley kept them at bay, leav­ing both sides with a point.
