WALKER WOWS A WORTHY WINNER

- By Matt Richbell

ANDOVER TOWN were beaten 2-1 at home by Hamworthy United, bringing to an end a brilliant recent run of form for Town. Former AFC Totton winger Mike Gosney put Town ahead and it appeared to be business as usual for Glenn Burnett’s side, against the Hammers. Gosney struck a free-kick which took a heavy deflection before finding the net. However, the visitors fought hard at the Portway Stadium and drew level to go into the interval all-square, through Nathan Walker after a mix-up between keeper Luke Cairney and defender Connor Cocklin. In the second half, the hosts went close as George Hallahan curled the ball over the keeper, but saw the ball bounce back agonisingly off the woodwork. The Hammers then bagged the winner from the spot, through Walker again after Luke Dempsey handled the ball on the line, for which he saw red. Elsewhere, Lymington Town won the New Forest derby, winning 5-0 away at Bashley. Bash had been in fine form but had no answer to Town’s display. Owen Fee bagged a hat-trick, his second within a week, and that treble was added to by a brace from Charlie Willett. Liam Robinson was on target for Blackfield & Langley with the only goal of the game as the Watersiders won 1-0 at Southampton-rivals Sholing. Hamble Club came from behind to triumph 2-1 at home to Horndean. The Deans went ahead but Mo Nyang drew the hosts level from close range. Hamble Club then completed the comeback as experienced striker Nathan Lynch scored a looping header. And Cowes Sports ran out 3-0 winners at home to Wiltshire side Bemerton Heath Harlequins.
