BACK-BITING & LIES

- By Jon Couch

Find out why Step 5 boss Paul Smith is at loggerheads with his board of directors

FED-UP boss Paul Smith has delivered a parting shot to the Bromsgrove Sporting board after announcing that he will quit the Midland Premier League high-flyers at the end of the season.

The Rouslers are second in the table in search of a second successive promotion, but angry Smith has questioned the club’s “honesty, integrity and transparency” while explaining his decision to walk away in the summer with “an extremely heavy heart”.

Smith took to Twitter after the club refused to print his programme notes for yesterday’s visit of AFC Wulfrunians, where he said the fans “have a right to know” about “constant back-biting and lies” that he claims are engulfing the hierarchy at the Worcestershire club.

The former Studley boss hit out after contract talks with the club stalled on Tuesday night with the executive committee agreeing a contract “was needed at the present time”.

In his message to fans, Smith said: “You would have thought, on the wave of success we currently find ourselves, I would be loving my football? Unfortunately, the constant back-biting and lies have got me to a point where I feel I have to give up.

“There are people out there, these people want to come in. Unfortunately for reasons only known by a select few they are not being brought in.”

Chairman Mike Burke responded to the Bromsgrove Standard: “The board and volunteers do not deserve allegations thrown at them.”
