The Non-League Football Paper - - BOSTIK LEAGUE - By Tony Osborne

BRIGHTLINGSEA Regent started on the front foot and deserved the lead after just two minutes, when Aaron Condon crossed for Louie Newland but his effort was well saved.

Despite their fast start, Brightlingsea’s electric opening to the game started to unravel as they gave the visitors too much time and space to get back into the game.

They, however, did take the lead after 12 minutes as a Jake Turner free-kick met the head of Billy Hunt to convert into the bottom corner of the net.

Merstham equalised in the 24th minute, with good work down the right from Alex Addai, whose cross found the unmarked Charlie Penny to slot home.

The second half was a fairly equal affair until Merstham made the breakthrough with ten minutes to play.

Alex Addai again made good progress down the right, advancing into the box and smashing home.

The contest was settled in the last minute with substitute Dan Bennett finding space in the Regent box, after a counter attack, to stroke home.

Regent will be kicking themslves after a poor showing, with their indiscipline allowing Merstham the chance to take the points.
