A BRACE from Jamie Griffiths guided Needham Market to a 3-2 victory, this against second-placed Margate at Bloomfields.

With both sides level on the half hour mark, it was the hosts who broke the deadlock on 35 minutes. Griffiths slotting beyond ‘Gate goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley from close range.

However, the lead was to prove rather short-lived as Jordan Chiedozie equalised on 45 minutes. A player who has undoubted ability at this level and will be vital in their promotion ambitions.

Griffiths scored his and Needham’s second goal on 71 minutes. Luke Ingram’s determined run and cross picked him out, before he finished emphatically from 18 yards.

Daniel Morphew added a third from the spot on 84 minutes, after John Sands was pushed in the area.

On 89 minutes, Jay May pulled a goal back for the visitors to ensure a nervy finish. Despite four additional minutes, Needham held on for victory.

It was a terrific home win for the Marketmen against a Margate side who had previously won seven games in succession.

The Reds are on the road on Saturday, when they face the Metropolitan Police.
