WINGATE HALT DIFFICULT RUN
WINGATE & Finchley brought to a halt a difficult run by picking up a well-deserved point.
Irnti Rapai recycled to fellow debutant Layne Eadie, whose precision cross inside the early minutes evaded Marc-Charles Smith at the back post.
Reece Beckles-Richards fed Afolabi Obafemi on the edge of the box, who couldn’t turn his shot on target. Charles-Smith connected with Jack Humphrey’s header but his strike was sent wide.
The visitors, against the run of play, came close to finding the opening goal in the 44th minute, however Reise Allassani fired wide across goal. On the stroke of half time, Nyren Clunis burst towards the box but hit past the left post.
Following the restart, Ashley Carew took aim from the edge of the box but Shane Gore tipped wide. Obafemi back-heeled to Freddy Moncur inside the box but he couldn’t get enough power on his shot.
Luke Ifil broke down the right to the byline and clipped towards Charles-Smith, who was unable to turn the ball on target.
With the last meaningful attack of the game, Clunis aimed for the far corner from the inside right but couldn’t beat Gore, who was down quickly to make the stop.
