Lancaster still joyless at home

- By Andrew Satterthwaite

LANCASTER’S poor run of results at home continued when they were beaten by Rushall Olympic.

The visitors came out with a positive attacking intent and had a good chance to take the lead after five minutes when Simeon Maye broke clean through on goal, but his shot was placed well wide of goal.

Their attacking intent was rewarded after 17 minutes when another quick break gave Daniel Waldron the chance to beat a defender in the penalty area before firing past Lancaster goalkeeper Elliot Wynne.

Lancaster had a chance to draw level after 22 minutes when Rushall failed to clear a free-kick, but Glenn Steel could only fire wide of goal.

Rushall doubled their lead three minutes later when another good move saw Waldron react quickest to a ball played into the penalty area and fire under the advancing Wynne for his second goal of the game.

Despite being second best, Lancaster were still creating opportunities with Ryan Winder having a shot blocked after 37 minutes.

Lancaster came out for the second half looking for the goal that would get them back into the game with a long-range Sam Bailey shot being tipped over the bar by Joe Slinn after 53 minutes.

Waldron almost completed a hat-trick in spectacular fashion four minutes later when a run from the halfway line took him into Lancaster’s penalty area but his shot flew over the crossbar.

Bailey came close again with a volleyed shot over the crossbar on the hour mark but despite pressing for a goal, Rushall defended well to limit the home side to few clear-cut opportunities.

The best came with eight minutes remaining when substitute Tomn Kilifin was denied by an excellent defensive block.
