Double trouble as Blues clinch it

- By Graham Auger

BISHOP’S STORTFORD put last Saturday’s debacle at Kettering behind them to eventually run out comfortable winners over the Robins.

Doubles from Dipo Akinyemi and veteran Jamie Cureton proved decisive.

There was little between the two sides until 20 minutes from time.

But then Stortford rattled in three goals to clinch the points.

It was also the Blues’ first clean sheet for more than two months.

Frome had a slight edge on the proceedings early on, but they fell behind in the 16th minute as George Casey intercepted the ball in his own half and sent Akinyemi clear to beat Kyle Phillips with a low shot.

Akinyemi headed wide six minutes later and, in a lowkey first half Jon Davies went close for the Somerset sid.

New Stortford stopper Calum Kitscha also blocked an effort from Darren Jefferies.

Frome started after the break on the front foot, with Kitscha tipping over a rising shot from skipper George Miller.

But, with 20 minutes to go, Akinyemi battled hard to win the ball.

When it ran free to Cureton, the 42-year-old striker fired expertly into the net from an angle.

Dean Ager then collected a loose pass in midfield to send Cureton away to finish clinically for the third.

And three minutes later a Tom Clifford corner was deflected to Akinyemi, who netted through a forest of legs from 12 yards for his second.
