MILLERS SAVED BY TOP DEC

- By Keith Huxley

DECLAN Sheppard snatched North Leigh a point against league leaders Taunton Town with a dramatic second-half leveller.

Taunton were certainly made to work hard before conceding an equaliser that Leigh fully deserved.

The Somerset side took the lead through Craig Veal, who scored after 14 minutes when put through on goal.

Taunton dominated possession and chances but couldn’t add to their lead before the break.

They were made to pay when Sheppard equalised after 53 minutes.

Matt Wright almost got a winner for Taunton when his header rattled the crossbar from Veal’s cross, but they had to settle for a share of the spoils in the end.

Conor McDonough netted a hat-trick on his full debut for Kidlington as they had an impressive 4-0 victory over Bideford.

The striker rounded Bideford keeper Steve Oliver for his first to open the scoring just before the break.

Mark Janes dou- bled the lead shortly after half-time by curling home a brilliant effort.

McDonough then got his second to put the game to bed with just over ten minutes to play, smashing his shot into the back of the net off the post.

And he had just enough time to nip in for his third late on.

Brad Hooper and Callum Parsons both grabbed two goals as Swindon Supermarine put five past Shortwood United, with the visitors only netting one consolation score.

Swindon created most of the chances in the first half and finally broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time, with Parsons on hand to score his first of the day

The striker then got another early in the second half after being played in by Harrison Bennett following a surging run.

Hooper got his first from the spot as Supermarine were awarded a penalty midway through the second half, then added another with a stunning volley from the edge of the box.

Joe Selman added the hosts’ fifth with an easy tap-in, before Shortwood at least managed a late consolation through Jack Freeman.

Meanwhile, two late goals from Will Christopher and Alan Griffin meant Cirencester Town and Larkhall Athletic shared the points in a sixgoal thriller.

Ben Whitehead opened the scoring for Cirencester from the spot when Tommy Ouldridge was brought down in the box.

Athletic equalised minutes later through Joe Tumelty as he pounced on a rebound to calmly slot home.

The hosts then went two ahead with both goals from Matthew Britton.

The first was a powerful drive just before half-time taht flew into the corner and the secondwas a different type of goal, as he converted a glancing header from a corner.

Athletic looked to have the game tied up at 3-1 ahead with just two minutes left but there was still time for late drama.

A goal from Christopher in the 88th minute gave Cirencester just a glimmer of hope and another from Griffin in the 90th levelled it up at 3-3. A penalty apiece for

Yate Town and Didcot Town meant they finished with a 2-2 draw.

Adam Price and Stephen Davies from the spot gave Yate a 2-0 lead but George Jeacock’s penalty and Callum McNish’s effort earned Didcot a point.

And Mangotsfield United managed a 2-0 victory away at Slimbridge with goals from Kyle Tooze and Kane Simpson.
