ROVERS FEELING AT HOME

- By David Wyllie

ROBBIE Parsons helped Barton Rovers to their first home victory of the season as they beat Marlow 4-0. Parsons, Andrew Phillips, Benjamin Sawyer and Danny Jarvis all netted to ensure a home triumph at the 16th time of asking.

In an even first half, Parsons latched onto a Phillips flick to volley home after 30 minutes.

The second half was seven minutes old when Parsons was upended in the area and up stepped Phillips to score.

Rovers went three up when Phillips set up Sawyer to finish emphatically. The icing was on the cake for Rovers when Jarvis converted a first-time volley to move Barton just a point behind Fleet Town in 20th place. Third-placed Hartley Wintney couldn’t keep up with the top two as they suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of play-off chasing Chalfont St Peter.

It took just eight minutes for Saints to open the scoring as a great move was finished off with a Jake Cass volley.

Alan Hedley doubled Chalfont’s advantage midway through the second half but nine minutes later Tyron Smith was able to reduce the arrears.

Wintney pushed forward for an equaliser but Chalfont wrapped it up through Ryan Haugh’s well-struck effort from distance.

Former Dagenham and Redbridge striker Paul Benson’s 95th-minute strike helped Bedford

Town to a dramatic 2-1 victory at Northwood.

After a cagey first half, Steve Gentle flicked in a near-post header to put Bedford ahead.

Woods pushed for an equaliser and got their reward four minutes from time when Meshach Williams found the bottom corner with a low drive from the edge of the box.

That looked like being the last of the drama, but the Eagles swooped to victory as Benson scored to keep Town’s play-off dream alive.

A Sonny French double helped Aylesbury United overcome bottom of the table Arlesey Town who remain on just eight points and with one victory all season.

United were looking for their seventh away win of the season, and two firsthalf goals ultimately settled the contest 2-0.

French notched his first of the afternoon on 27 minutes before repeating the trick 11 minutes later.

Elsewhere, Moneyfields were made to dig deep against struggling Aylesbury but they prevailed 2-0 to keep them seven points offthe play-offs.

In a game of very fine margins, the result was always likely to be settled by a moment of magic or a mistake and, alas for Aylesbury keeper Ash Jenkins, it was the latter. The stopper’s goal kick went straight into the path of Stephen Hutchings, who confidently fired home.

Aylesbury tried to get back into it, but Moneyfields hit them on the counter late on – Howard Neighbour getting his first of the season. Meanwhile, Fleet Town and Hanwell Town continued their struggles near the bottom of the division after playing out a dour 0-0 draw.

The pair went into the contest separated by one point and one place in the table.

And the match reflected the pair’s current form as neither side could break the deadlock at Calthorpe Park.

The result leaves Fleet on 24 points and Hanwell on 25, but the Geordies do have three games in hand on sides around them.
