ALLAN PUTS OLD PALS’ ACT ASIDE TO DENY YORK
YORK CITY 1 ALFRETON TOWN 1
YORK City community coach and former player Tom Allan denied his employers maximum points with an equalising header for part-timers Alfreton.
Left-back Allan grabbed his seventh goal of the season to cancel out Simon Heslop’s early goal for the hosts.
Ex- Luton and Wrexham midfielder Heslop netted on five minutes when he fired across the face of Viktor Johansson’s goal into the bottom corner after being played through the right channel by Aidan Connolly’s quickly-taken free kick.
But the visitors might have drawn level when a Jonny Burn blunder sent Nyal Bell clear on the home goal, only for the striker to have the ball taken off his toes as he tried to round home keeper Adam Bartlett.
On 38 minutes, though, parity was restored when Allan rose unchallenged to head in from six yards following Cieron Keane’s lofted free kick.
After the break, Allan went close with another header from a set-piece and Bartlett was also quick off his line to meet Keane.
At the other end, second-half sub Connor Smith drove narrowly wide for Martin Gray’s men and former Dundee United winger Connolly saw a 12-yard effort saved by on-loan Aston Villa keeper Johnansson’s legs.
