Invicta’s play-off charge stutters

- By Mark Murphy

FOLKESTONE’S play-off challenge suffered a minor jolt when they were held by a fiercely determined Kingstonian, personified by captain Kevin Maclaren’s perpetual motion in midfield.

Debutant striker Jason Williams gave Ks a 53rdminute lead and though Adam Yusuff levelled nine minutes later, Invicta failed to take their late chances to win it.

Conditions were not conducive to good football and the first half was a non-event.

Invicta had more possession but Williams spurned the one clear chance, hooking his leftfoot shot wide on 31 minutes when clean through.

He made amends after the break, firing rightfooted past static Invicta keeper Tim Roberts from 15 yards, as four defenders encircled him but stood off him.

Invicta’s leveller was the move of the match, Yusuff netting right-footed from close range after slick passing opened up Ks’ defence.

Ks keeper Rob Tolfrey, nearly getting to the ball.

He superbly denied Joe Taylor on 69 minutes, Draycott handling before firing home the rebound. Johan Der Torst missed a fine chance when clean through on 76 minutes.

And Tolfrey made further saves, from Draycott on 79 minutes and Der Torst five minutes later.

He athletically denied Yusuff as the striker tried to force home the rebound from Der Torst’s low leftfoot drive.
