STEPHENS IS ON THE UP WITH SILKMEN
BEN STEPHENS has landed his dream move into the Football League with National League champions Macclesfield.
The highly-rated forward has become new manager Mark Yates’ second summer signing and secured a two-year deal with the Silkmen.
Stephens, 20, will be stepping up three divisions after enjoying a superb season with Stratford Town in the EVO-STIK Southern League.
He netted 25 goals in 42 starts for Darren Byfield’s side which earned him a clean sweep at Town’s end of season awards, winning Players’ Player of the Year, Manager’s Player and Supporter’s Player as well as finishing as the club’s top scorer.
Stephens was a schoolboy in Leicester City’s academy and also represented Kettering Town before he joined Stratford. He also attended Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy earlier this month.
He said: “I’m delighted that I’ve signed for Macclesfield but I want to thank Stratford and it’s fans for all of the help and support they have given me in my time there. I wouldn’t be where I am now without them.
“I’m buzzing to get started and meet the lads. I’ve been waiting to get into the professional game.
“I’ve been to clubs and done this and that. I’m delighted now to get it out of the way, get started and go for it.
“Macclesfield is a pro club and I want to be playing full-time football. I’m really looking forward to it.”
