GARY DELIVERS A SHOT IN THE ARM
ALDERSHOT Town striker Scott Rendell told The NLP last week he had complete faith in manager Gary Waddock to recruit well this summer – and it looks as though he’s been proved right. After a flurry of departures, ‘The Wadfather’ has brought in five fresh faces to give the Shots a boost ahead of the National League season. Heading the list is Huddersfield Town midfielder Regan Booty. The 20-yearold has arrived on a season-long loan from the Premier League outfit, where he has featured as Under-23s captain. Also venturing to the EBB Stadium is Kenyan international Josh Lelan. The 23year-old defender joins following a year and a half at League Two side Crawley Town and was formerly on the books at Derby and Northampton.
Natural fit
Waddock has swooped for two players with bags of experience. Antigua and Barbuda international right-back Marvin McCoy, 29, arrives from Ebbsfleet and previously played under the Shots manager at Wycombe, winning promotion to League One in 2010-11.
Midfielder Luke Howell, 31, has moved from Dagenham & Redbridge. He formerly represented Gillingham, MK Dons, Lincoln City and Boreham Wood.
“Everyone loves the way a Gary Waddock team plays, and it feels like a natural fit for me,” said Howell.
The Shots had earlier captured winger Luke Wanadio from Bromley. The 25-year-old made 40 National League appearances for the Ravens last season, notching seven goals, having joined from Dartford a year ago.
Aldershot, who reached the play-offs last term, launch their National League season at home against Barnet. It means there will be an immediate return for defenders Callum Reynolds and Cheye Alexander, who left the Shots for the Bees this summer.
