LINCOLN’S ROCK FOR BOGNOR

Sean earns Urchins a point

- By Tony Middleton

KEEPERS were the stars as many peoples’ tips for the top, AFC Hornchurch and Bognor Regis made light work of the heavy weather to produce a cracking match.

Bognor looked a settled and very composed side as they built up their momentum from midfield.

However, the Rocks found themselves up against an equally composed home defence and neither side could create any early chances on goal.

On 15 minutes, the Urchins’ George Saunders flew down the right wing and sent over a low cross that eluded everyone as it flew across the goalmouth.

And a minute later Harvey Whyte went close for Bognor with a similar run and cross with Alex Bentley making a fine clearance.

George Purcell went close for Hornchurch after Sean Marks had flicked the ball on and a long range shot from Nathan Livings drifted nar-

rowly wide of the target.

Hornchurch keeper Callum Chafer made a fine save from Calvin Davies turning the ball around the post.

But from the resulting corner Daniel Smith headed home from close range to give Bognor the lead, on 37 minutes.

Muitt and Bradley Lethbridge both went close for Bognor before the break

And the two Georges, Purcell and Saunders, were also denied at the other end while Rocks keeper Dan Lincoln also dealt well with a hard drive from Purcell.

Three minutes into the second half, a Purcell shot was diverted away for a corner from which Connor Hogan’s shot was saved by Lincoln.

But Hornchurch were rewarded in their very next attack

Archie Edwards was forced to clear a Warner corner and Sean Marks forced the next Warner corner across the line.

It was now end-to-end stuff with both keepers in frequent action. J

ames Muitt forced a fine save from Chafer. Warner sent a free kick narrowly over.

And in stoppage time, Chafer saved from Smith and Lincoln saved well from Theo Fairweather-Johnson and again from Leon McKenzie to keep the scoreline level.
